Garrett Borchard, now 10, of Coleman, finished the 2007 drag racing season in first place in the eight to nine-year-old junior dragster division at the Mid Michigan Motorplex in Edmore with 683 points. Borchard, a somewhat shy and quiet ten-year-old, leaves his timid personality at the starting line when the final light glows green on the tree. “It’s kind of really fun, driving as fast as you can,” Borchard said of racing a car that tops out at 50 mph, six years before his classmates in school will receive their drivers license.

Spring training

Minor League Baseball saw its birth in Midland, Michigan in 2007 with the start of the Great Lakes Loons, a Los Angeles Dodgers class “A” affiliate. Before the stadium was complete, the Dodgers began their selection process for the new team. Players from around the world vied for their chance to be on the roster. Spring Training takes a look at just that, the feeling of competition, and camaraderie that permeates Dodgertown in the spring time.
