Membership information
The Michigan Press Photographers Association is a 200-plus member organization, comprised of working still and student Photojournalists from throughout Michigan. Some of the offerings of the MPPA include:
Seminars
The MPPA brings in speakers accomplished in the field of photojournalism for weekend seminars. We fly in speakers for our annual seminar, usually in February.
Annual contest
A Michigan Pictures of the Year contest is held annually, usually in February, for members of the MPPA. Pictures taken the previous year may be entered. The contest usually attracts the best work of over 200 professional and student photojournalists who are based in Michigan.
Annual student scholarship
The MPPA offers a $500 student scholarship to its College Photographer of the Year winner. Scholarship eligibility requirements are membership in the MPPA and entrance of a portfolio in the Michigan Pictures of the Year contest.
Online portfolio
Members are also entitled to the additional benefit of publishing a sample of their photojournalism on the internet. Ten single images and two photo stories are permitted to be placed in the Members Portfolio area on the MPPA web server. Directions for submitting images are available here.
