Comments:

First — The judges really enjoyed the layers in this photograph. The mood and emotions in every person in the frame added to the picture and really shared the personalities of the students attending this event.

Second — Nice perspective. Judges would have liked to hear a little more about the event. Who the tailgate was for and what relationship the people in the photograph had to him.

Third — Clean composition, solid spot news photograph. Nice color and textures.

HM — The judges talked about this photo quite a bit. We felt that on the one hand it was great the photographer recognized a good situation however se missed an opportunity to make a truly great picture. It also showed up in the caption on how much time was spent with the subjects, there is no reason for not getting their names and the story behind this image. Better lensing, depth of field and a little patience would have propelled this situation to a first place.
